Unexpectedly sweet. This is great. Clever thinking on the part of our guy Kijima trying to take the drunk with him, that takes brains AND guts to pull off. Fortunately the drunken dude wasn't ready for a fight and left. He saves her and also still gets to take the exam.

Re-reading, I also realized Suzuko was already there as early as page 2. On the train platform for a train she normally wouldn't take.
So Suzuko:

• boarded a train she normally doesn't take, it was her chance to talk to him and the pen he dropped was the perfect excuse
• was out of breath despite being a few steps away from the train, because she was extremely nervous
• was fiddling with her hair while seated beside him, still nervous and probably worried about looking weird
• was dying of nervousness on pg. 13 because she was afraid he'll realize they were talking about him
• easily and definitively agreed with the old lady remarking on his kindness
• quickly got off the train right after he did, again picking up the pen he dropped

From page 32 "Then I wouldn't let the chance pass me by..." we then return to page 1, the implication being he confesses. Based on her positively surprised reaction, she's answering yes. Also, that pen/mechanical pencil is the MVP (most valuable pencil) in this story.

Serialization please! More romcoms where the main couple start dating early is very much appreciated.
