Despite the tag, this is not really a harem series. While the others characters exist and even love Keita (MC), its always clear Maki is the only serious candidate for Keita. Still, it is harem enough that multiple girls begin orbiting around Keita.
This is the safest manga I've read in a while. The story of a powerful but helpless girl falling into an indecisive MC is well-worn. There is a childhood friend plot, big fight scene, and so on. But, I speak from a 2023 perspective. This came out in 2004, so likely predated many of the well-worn tropes that I've come to expect from harem or romcom manga. The story is fine, if some boring at times. This manga sticks out with its final arc, which felt better done than many other final arc's I've seen in harem or romcom. Sure, the ending was predictable, but that's not necessarily bad. It did manage to pull at a couple of my strings, so I respect it. The biggest weakness of the ending was the manga was too short, some more volumes would have been needed to fully flesh out character motivations.
A predictable but good manga, you can't go wrong with this.
7/10.
