I think I finally figured out why the tone of this manga is all over the place, like it doesn't know what kind of manga it wants to be. Instead of the usual power fantasy or wish fulfillment themes of most isekai stories, this one has become just straight up therapy for the mangaka to work out their parental abandonment issues.
