The Japaneseness of the work comes to the forefront in its highlighting of the "shame" line in Hamlet's soliloquy , which reads a bit oddly in the original English. The identification of the flowers Ophelia gives is also the only time the original uses footnotes (apropos a nation of flower-arrangers), but since a book could be written on every line of the play, it seemed best to let people Google it.

I sometimes wonder if Shakespeare would have been stoked to do movies. I mean, I'm imagining him talking about the play as he was writing it, saying "And then Ophelia falls out of a tree and drowns in a stream. Oh, and meanwhile, Hamlet is sailing and, get this, they get attacked by pirates--"
"Will."
"--and he totally joins them, see, and he's swapped the letter--"
"WILL!!! How are we supposed to put a stream and a pirate attack on that stage?!"
"Oh, bollocks. Um, we'll just have a little dialogue saying it happened. God's teeth, what I wouldn't give for better stage machinery!"

@Kendama Point. You can do surprising amounts with a stage. But still, goes to show if that guy had access to a cast of thousands and Industrial Light and Magic, he would have used them!
