The dick joke and wolf was funny. Until it was too long and stopped being funny. This team won against a demon lord, just beat this dumb dog already and move on. But the author dragged it so long it was comparable to a longer arc previously. I thought this was suitable as a mini arc and last 5 chapters long.

Maybe the author outta ideas and stretching this out while he takes a break without officially taking a break? Like a useless flashback arc other authors use?

This is a later arc. Arcs always get longer for some reason. If you start with a tournament arc, it's over within a few chapter at most. If you have one after a few volumes, it's going to last at least a full volume if not several.
