I still can't figure out what theme the author wants to convey...."having fun is the most important thing" or "I need to prove I am a genius and the best". Ayano shifted her thought in the middle of the match.

The manga hasn't really explained any more why her mom left, but the anime shifted from "I wanted you to stop being so serious about badminton, thinking that winning was the only thing, so that you can make friends" to "relying on me was holding her back as a player, I wanted her to be better at badminton"

More bigging up the blonde final boss trope. I don't think you can say that when you've been cheered on your entire life by everyone but your parents, Rui. But at least we got a game now. Both contestants are giving it their all. With the twist of the mangaka having declared through the mouth of that reporter (or her brother. Can't remember) that Rui's goal is to lose while going all out so that his ultimate invincible unbeatable final boss blonde wins even if she loses. Sigh... As long as this is the end of the bigging up and we get a great game from here on out. Rui's superior ability vs Ayano's inexhaustible drive. If she built up her stamina enough she can win.
