I will give my review and analyzes about this volume and spoiler alert, I will dig deep into the story as much as I got from it so far.
This story is very confusing and really badly managed which makes the reading experience worse and even more difficulty to follow with the story. The reason behind that is very simple, the writer wants you to read it again. Which is very wrong as it is heavily relaying on that. You have a lot of back story like about 70% of the first volume. You have also a very difficult, full of new words and laws of this world got presented to you in the first panels. If the author began by giving us a back story of both Miach, Tuan and Cia together and explained briefly about what is the watchme thing then it would have paced way better than this.
If I tried to go with the story flow as it is presented I will take hours and hours to write it as I will always get more confused and I need to reread the volume again.
After a big nuclear war happened about a century ago. People were getting cancer very fast and a lot of death followed. But after half a century, a couple of scientists managed to create something called watchme. Watchme is a device inside the body or something similar, that manages to stop all of the disease except the brain ones. That is because of the blood brain barrier. This shows that the writer either knows about medicine a bit or he studied it. Also, it can monitor the body and tries to make it the best and perfect shape for the human to live. This kind of ideology was created at that time with the name of Lifesim.
There was a girl called Miach. She was the best student at the class or even the school with the perfect score. Even with a society of Lifesim. That made people always kind, helpful, social and full of life. She was always alone. That attracted the MC whose name is Tuan. It is not mentioned but I think this society only accept straight couples and I will explain why.
Miach was really fucked in the head. She didn’t like this type of lifestyle. As she aimed to do anything against the rules. Like readying a book. You might ask why books are band and the reason is very stupid and simple. The books are heavy and it can hurt. This can be debated afterward but not right now.
Miach was reading outside when Tuan saw her and she jumped on Tuan and began to be friendly. She began ranting about her mind non stop and talking about being a teen forever and not being an adult, because the moment you become an adult a watchme will be planted in your chest. Before they left each other for the day, Miach took Tuan hand and kissed it. The other day, Tuan during the break in school went to see Miach. Miach explained that this kind of society made people always try to be the best they are and that is why even this is just a break, the students go to do some work even though this time is ment to eat and rest.
Miach then rants again about her fucked up mind and began kinda sexually assault Tuan by touching her boobs and talking about if Tuan really wants to have a watchme in there. I don’t remember exactly when but Miach at some point made Tuan also kiss her hand like she is showing her commitment to Miach’s mind.
Then they became three. As Cia entered the group. After that, Miach introduced her real thoughts about her body. She stated that she hated this life because she can’t sell her body and then she asked the other girls with no forward question mark if they didn’t want to rub their fatty belly on some ugly fat dude during sex. It is like she is expressing her needs of being touched and that’s all and wanting to see if the others agree. Also she mentioned that they control who they live with. It was never shown in the story but it might refers that Miach didn’t want to be a with a dude. Then she follows with a more fucked up idea. She rants about how the world used to be easily changed as humans can stop their governments and change the way they live but now it is controlled by the whole society. In other words you can’t change this lifestyle because most of these people like it and if you can’t change their mind, you are stuck with this lifestyle.
I thought they might be extra extreme and that is why Miach might want to change to another lifestyle but it is not true. As most chose it because they want to live and they hate to lose and feel pain. It is understandable as something only adults hate and it makes sense why they put the watchme only on adults.
There is also a scene of Tuan’s father who knows the most about the watchme device. He opposed of the speech about preventing coffee as it is a double edge sword but it is not that harmful. But all of the other humans didn’t agree which shows that they all think the same and Miach is kinda right about one thing which is the very scared type of society they are makes life unbearable. As they are scared of anything that might change their perfect life ideology’s.
During lunch, Miach, Tuan and Cia talked together and Miach convinced them about making a suicide pact using a medicine that shuts down their digestive system. Miach didn’t have to convince Tuan as she accepted the medicine fast because she became Miach’s puppet and soon Cia followed. Cia hated the world for changing her dog to a puppet and they did that beacue of a stupid bite. He bit her while playing. His bite didn’t even leave a mark on her. But because they are very extreme about staying safe and alive they changed her dog with a strict type of training. He returned like a toy and not a dog.
They took the medicine day after day and Miach passed away while Cia and Tuan went to the hospital. It is all thanks to Cia who ranted about this to her family so they can save them all but they were too late for Miach.
Let’s go now to the present, Tuan traded some watchme with a group called the Tuareg. Before a bomber followed them and she managed to take it down. Her boss was not satisfied with her because she did something that could start some flame in the Sahara and she also managed to drink and smoke without triggering the watchme. Soon after, she was sent to her homeland, Japan. She was given a house arrest sentence but nothing will be told to the public. When she arrived she met Cia. Cia wasn’t acting like her usual self. While walking they decided to book a reservation for some fancy restaurant. Inside the restaurant, Cia acted weirder. She began confessing about her being the rat and she should have acted faster to save Miach. Tuan understood her frustration because she was alone with those words and thoughts for 13 years. She had to live with this society again so she can feel a bit accepted and not alone. Tuan tried to help Cia by stating that Miach wanted soldiers who would have followed her to the grave but they were her friends and CIA’s actions were justifiable. At that moment something possessed Cia and that what Tuan thinks. As she took the fork and killed herself. At that moment about 6 thousand suicides were convicted and all of them had their camera lenses on. This made Tuan see and feel like they were the soldiers of Miach she always wished for. At this moment you kinda understand something. We have two options to explain this situation. Either Cia knew she failed in accomplishing Miach’s dream by taking this society to the ground and return freedom back by a big suicide pact or Miach is still alive and she is the one who is managing that because in the flashbacks, Miach stated that if you can hack into the watchme you can kill all people at once and end this type of society forever. I think the other explanation is more likely to be the truth and why is that. Because she made them all ware contact lenses that video tape their deaths and the only one who will see them is Tuan as this is her job. It is like a message to her and because somehow Tuan managed to overcome the watchme and act anyway she wants without alerting the authorities or be controlled. In another words, Miach can’t kill her.
One last thing to mention, I think Tuan managed to do that because she wanted to overcome this type of lifestyle without deaths and she thought about that while she was recovering from the medicine effect on her.
The story is deep but the author didn’t know how to open it.
