Gods, I love this work. The way she is matter-of-factly honest with herself while still fully letting her coping strategy carry her along feels so very real. To me, that honesty makes that scene with the kid hit even harder. It really colors what made her ask the question. She was aware that Sakura wasn't a ghost or anything, obviously, even if she wasn't able to acknowledge it directly yet — but she wanted to give fantasy a chance. She let herself ask, allowed an opportunity for the supernatural to provide for her, despite knowing.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but feeling her emotions so strongly as a reader makes me almost understand the hope for an afterlife that faith offers. That's something that I (someone non-religious) have never really been tempted by, even while grieving. I think I understand it a little more, now, even though it's still a foreign wish to me.

Thank you for the update, as always.
