@GlyphXion I wonder if using a phrase like "their names get promoted" would make the segue into the job title talk more natural. In case you do revisit this chapter.
By the way I think you're fine with providing the context where you can, including TL notes. For a work like this, that's just how you have to do it. These aren't minor asides you can localize here and there, it's basically the whole meat of the work, so anyone looking to appreciate it is going to have to learn the random japanese factoids. It's just not an experience that works without acknowledging that they are speaking a different language. Nevertheless, I do think you're making it pretty enjoyable. It's never going to have quite the same impact it would to a native Japanese speaker, but most of the jokes still land and the character personalities come through.
