That was a super long alliance, for sure. If Hawkwood really was expecting this all along, his actions hardly showed it. He was ready to act, but he was still badly surprised.
I suppose gabin is planning on swooping in and saving the remnants after Hawkwood dies or at worst taking their name and credit as his own in the event they get wiped out. Pretty ruthless
