If they could go back with... let's say gold bars, are they regulated? Like can they just went into a shop and sell them?
Short answer, yes, they could easily sell them.
Long answer - basically almost everywhere (and i think everywhere in western/1st world) trade/ownership of gold is legal. Any regulations/bans in other countries also often cover export, not import (which would be the case here).
Lets say, as they'd come back from a different world, we can ignore potential capital gains taxes, and especially potential proof of sourcing the gold (for anti money laundering laws, avoidance of taxes, stuff like that).
Process of selling it would be trivial, especially amounts we cover here (and while amount for a dead kid seems appropriate, i feel they should ask for more for "only" enslaved people).
Form and purity doesn't really matter that much - gold is gold - if you have recognized coins in decent quality you can easily get something like 98% of spot, and if selling several kilograms at once even more.
Random scrap will get you maybe 90% of spot price, again depending on total weight, purity, stuff like that.
In their case - lets say not really recognizable bars or coins, of slightly varying purity, - 95% should be achievable.
But they also could probably get several times that as collectors item.

I only know about gold selling from my family, which is to go to the reputable gold shop in our local china town in Bangkok to buy/sell them. The shop also provide receipt (Which also serve as authentication paper), the gold bar will also have the logo stamp of the shop well. Though I never witness the selling process...
