I guess FL has never heard of aro/ace and ML thinks not having a personality preference instead of a physical one is "no preference"?
IDK feel like something was lost in translation on the exact words used in that argument, even if it was 50% a throwaway convo to advance the romcom misunderstandings XD
In fairness, a reasonable hypothesis from our multiverse perspective would be that he does know what his ideal type is, and it actually happens to be either of them—even if he's, uh, clearly thinking of a particular person in his life that's like that right now.
(Of course, there's a longstanding narrative imperative that something be wrong with the OG FL just to erase the vague discomfort of the protagonist being forever "the alternative timeline pick". But I'm ignoring that for a moment because it annoys me slightly that they can't ever just both be good people and have that be okay.)
