Help me remember

there was a manga about heroes in fairly modern times that save the people from monsters and the main character is a jaded older hero and his new partner is a bright, naive, typical shonen protag. It seems to deal with the scale of idealism/cynicism. It was in black and white and I haven't seen it in a while.
