“Blood sisters” :meguusmug:

Also pls correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this the first time one of them thought about romantic love? And it’s You Yu while lovingly looking at a sleeping Chi Tang? I can’t handle this.

Thank you Sunflower Patch for the TL and keeping this series updated!!

This was the chapter that made me really appreciate the adaptation from the novel. Like sure there's been little subtle visual additions that the text couldn't convey, but the way Chi Tang goes from snarling to smiling like a newlywed after realizing it's You Yu at the cafe made me crack up 😭😂

Unless they ever make an adaptation of PDL's works this might honestly be my favorite Baihe novel adaptation!

I didn't even realise it was an adaptation until recently - I've got the translation in my reading list but I haven't started yet (too many other things already on the go!)

Could I trouble you for other stories you'd recommend? My reading list isn't long enough yet - it's possible I might manage to read them all before the heat death of the universe, so I need a few more to keep me going . . .

Anything by QJMX/PDL (Qing Jun Mo Xiao/Please don't Laugh) honestly. Ruzhui (Matrilocal Marriage) is one of my favorite stories period - a woman goes back in time to observe a past era and ends up in a timeline divergent from her own. None of the usual "isekai cheats" or power fantasy that's usually found in these kinds of stories. Also features a painfully realistic look at gender roles and women's suffrage.

By the same author, Jing Wei Qing Shang (Clear and Muddy Loss of Love) got so popular it recently started getting English prints at western stores like Barnes and Nobles. Can't recommend it enough either!

Ta Shi Zhujiao (She is the Protagonist) by Re Dai Hun Jue and the "sister novel" (shared universe and references to TSZ) Lipu (Outrageous) are also favorites of mine. Both are quick transmigration novels involving actresses and a "system", though Outrageous has a lot more social commentary on privilege and whatnot.

If you were reading the "Miss Forensics" Manhua, "My Dear Miss Medical Examiner" is the novelization it's based on and it's completely translated too. This one is odd for me because at times it reads like a damn Wattpad novel but the tension between the two leads had me curling my toes lol. I left a longer "review" under the comments here on Mangadex of the most recent chapter if you're curious, but basically the prose is just kind of middling at times and reads closer to a "dictating a movie" (not in a good way) opposed to illustrating with words

The Witch Nichang isn't fully translated but if you can read mandarin or are okay with machine translation it's also in my top ten!

Sorry for the book, I am an incorrigible baihe gremlin 😂 If those are already on your list or you're hoping for something a little more specific, I'm happy to drop more!

That one's on my list already, it looked interesting but the description didn't make me go "yes! right now!" - I'll have to bump it higher up the list . . .

Added to the list - thanks!

Already finished, absolutely loved both of them. I think She is the Protagonist was the first time I'd read a "system" type story, the whole idea didn't make any sense to me so I avoided them, but it's hard to keep that prejudice when there are stories like this that are just so damned good.

On my list, but not started yet - it's long enough to be off-putting . . . I'll have to have a look at the Manhua as well, I didn't realise there was one.

Added to the list - it looks like it's getting some updates, now, though pretty sporadic . . . I can't read mandarin, but MTL is generally okay-ish for me - I've never tried with mandarin, though, at least with Japanese I know enough about the language to be able to decode some of the MTL idiocy even if I can't actually read the language myself . . .

Always happy to see people's suggestions - going through the list of stuff by genre on novelupdates is all well and good, but it's never going to be as good as getting recommendations from a real human, particularly one who can read the originals.
