honestly, I stopped reading this for a while because it got so...boring? I don't like stories that have so much things going on, but so little meaning to it. like rn, what are they even doing ??? I feel like for these apocolypse killing-game type mangas its extremely subjective, its either a hit or miss. This one, well you can already assume which one of those it was. The whole thing was confusing overall. I got hyped that it was turning into a show yes, I got excited that it had a good-dish plot with a strong female lead and female support characters and even a mysterious male lead-- but like....what the fuck? the whole thing went from talking of escaping to like becoming god and forming angels. I have no problem reading religious type manga, especially if they're apocalypse, but this one was done in a way so confusing and weirdly that I legit couldn't keep reading anymore. The concept or plot was ood, don't get me wrong, but just how it was laid out was what really killed it for me. It was definitely really good until the surgeon and that green-haired girl came in, after that it was super confusing.

anywaysss if ur reading this you should read Alice in Borderland (one of my fav mangas and finished), or Tomodachi Game (not exactly a kill or be killed type book, but rather a manipulative friend breaking game type manga. The mc is so fucking amazing, and the art style gets better by every volume. Although its ongoing with 80 some chapters, its def a read...)

for some apocolyptic type anime that are completed anddd underrated/underground id say watch: Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, Angels of Death (personally my favorite), Btooom! (its an anime that's pretty similar to this manga in some senses), and Akudama Drive (not really an apocalyptic anime...but more like a kill or be killed anime)

I get what you mean. I felt similar toward the beginning back when it felt like a "slice-of-life" survival manga before Nise came into the picture. I guess the author wanted to gradually introduce Yuki's development into the heroine she is now before joining up with her first real teammate, but they seriously waited until later in Volume 2 for it. But even then, it kinda worked. You had two girls going on adventures, showcasing how they struggle and grow as friends, with solving the big mystery on the side burner. Now the mystery is up in the forefront and instead of the survival focus we had for dozens of chapters, we now have a battle manga. Nise getting a power-up felt okay, but the issue really brought itself out when main heroine Yuki got her power-up imo. Suddenly she's an overpowered Mary Sue now. At least when she was human, her vulnerability to danger and placing trust in people made her more believable.
