Historical Shoujo/Josei manga don't even try to make the antagonists any wiser. They always act like narrow minded, emotionally fueled, greedy losers. They get smacked in the face early on, don't give up and just act annoying throughout the entire manga (well he got done pretty early). Atleast give them a couple of braincells to work with.

At first I thought the FLs gonna be your generic pushover, damsel in distress josei protag but I'm glad to see she's got some sass in her. ML is quite interesting too but the thing I'm looking forward to the most is how this manga is gonna portray their childhood friendship. If it's just used as a pretense, I might lose interest pretty quickly.

I genuinely couldn't tell if this was MTL. It's not like my comprehension abilities has worsened, nuh-uh, they have EVOLVED. Ofc, I can read good translations but I can even comprehend gibberish.

Well American English has always been a kludged together construct of other languages. So it shouldn't be all that surprising that even broken ai translations can be mostly understood.
