whoa I mean, I've held my headcanon near and dear to my heart but..... as a demiromantic asexual who isn't sex-aversed I've never related to a character as much as Hirano lol !!! not being interested, not thinking about it, but allowing it with someone you feel safe with, even finding enjoyment in it because of the closeness it brings and how you connect with them.. (I keep remembering that scene in an earlier chapter when Hirano enjoyed Kagiura leaning on his shoulder but didn't understand the romantic aspect of it because his heart didn't pound. so real, so good) 😭💘

I loved the difference in feeling between the two hair touching scenes, it's so nuanced and I feel like that nuance is so important in the aspec experience.

Well, if the mood is right he gets the doki doki from hugs. But that seems like that’s a big deal. Like, maybe the equivalent to “the deed” for basic bitches like myself? Probaby there’s no point in comparing them, because I am no expert on asexual things, and can never truly relate as a result.
My ex is aspec and I don’t remember if you ever noticed me talking about how relatable the relationship between these two is in comments on earlier chapters.

I have an aroace friend and the “It’s normal to want to kiss people?!” immediately made me think of him. Girls would invite him over to stay the night and hewould bring my PlayStation and parapa the rapper so they’d have something fun to do and she would tell him she thought they were going to have sex “Well, I thought we were gonna play Parapa the Rapper, so who’s missing out, then!”

But… yeah. She doesn’t like manga and just showing her a few key parts she was more frustrated than I that he doesn’t get his orientation in order.

I’ve said it many times: this is very much intentional representation. Sensei once told me during a live stream that she was relieved she had managed to do it well. I specifically cited coming-outs, and “I’m horny for Hirano-san”.

She stopped doing generic BL stuff entirely at a certain point. I think a bit before the festival where Miyano won the miscon?
SasaMyaa retained the BL story structure until that hit act 3 and then it just became gay slice of life. It gets REALLY Obvious that she’s become a major ally.
This manga was a trip back to BL land until (I’m guessing by the process of writing revealing this about Hirano to her) Hirano starts getting really acey.

We need lesbians and a trans character and all the basics are covered.

Man I just love the writing in this manga so much, it's so real and I love that sensei is doubling down on the 'Hirano is most definitely aspec' notion. That's one thing I love about modern BL, a lot of mangaka these days are interested in and open to learning and applying nuanced traits that derive from real life LGBTQ experiences to their characters. It's so nice to see, makes it feel less like BL for the sake of being BL and more like a story about two guys who just happen to be gay/bi/whatever.

This chapter reminded me, I've been reading The Case Files of Jeweler Richard (light novel) and it handles sexualities and the relationship between the male leads in a fairly similar way, I think. Extremely slow slow burn, lots of confusion about what's "normal" and expected, being in denial about liking someone of the same gender, several canonically LGBTQ characters (bi, gay, lesbian, aroace)... I hope it's not rude to shill for another series on a manga-specific thread, just figured I'd share since it seems most of us here are sexual minorities in some way and appreciate good representation.

Also I had the same reaction as Kagi to Hirano's hair, he looks so cool though!! And is it just me or is Miyano always like 200% more unhinged in HtK chapters than StM lol... His comments always crack me up

I think it’s because it’s from their perspective.
Also, if he was at base level, then our boys would have to be really bland in comparison.
Because he really gets excited about BL.

Well, she’s only dealing with 2 series, and once Miyano graduates SasaMyaa is ending, so things may speed up.
Three series, active research on queer representation, promo materials, two novels (that I doubt are worth reading. I know the HiraKagi novel is bland and boring, having “read” it. My kanji is shit)
Think of how much work! She doesn’t even have assistants!
Look at all the adaptations SasaMyaa has gotten! A play, a movie, a series and two (iirc) drama CDs? All that and accompanying additional colour art…
She’s LESS overworked, now, at least!
