It's a Japanese thing. Google "Uchi Soto" which kinda means "Inside/Outside". They place a huge emphasis on this dynamic in interpersonal relationships. (Think of the movie "Meet the Parents" with the future father-in-law who is a former CIA agent and his big deal about circles of trust.)

Over there, using someone's given name is incredibly personal. This is why some MCs in other manga are blown away when the love interest suddenly wants them to use their given name in the first or second chapter.
