Since karate was originally made to kill people, I think that it's about fighting to kill.
Just like shougo said, put their lives on the line.
I really don't like the way the author dragged that shougo inferiority complex all the Way there just so shougo could make yuu have a reason to fight him
I get that they're all "kids" and feelings like loss and rivalry can be very strong, but the reason for shougo doing all this is so he doesn't loses his place ,that apparently kamishiro took from him is so stupid...
He has 2 options
One is winning against kamishiro, but just like we see on some fights, what you get from it often isn't worth it
Second is accepting he can't reach him best one, it can be said on a better way though, tsuchiya for example is masaki's friend but even though he isn't stronger than him (at least not outside wrestling)he doesn't makes it his deal and is such a wimp about it. Shougo's pride is the problem.
We aren't that further from the end, I'm scared of how the series will end...
