@Escanor935 the assorted bits of backstory make it pretty clear he was a high-functioning sociopath with no moral compass whatsoever even *before* Kallen kicked the bucket, at which point he just became bootleg Gendo Ikari went completely off the deep end, tho. Circa half a millenium of exploring varyingly ethically bankrupt resurrection methods and ghastly human experimentation (which recently blew up BADLY with Celine...) to develop a better understanding of the Honkai have done nothing to improve matters since then.

He's assuredly competent but a monster all the same. This alt-verse incarnation is very much an improvement in that he's merely "necessarily ruthless".
