That's the fun thing with STEM, people from the outside don't understand. It isn't that the people getting into it are socially award or homely, It's that the work is so demanding you neglect other aspects of yourself.

They dress like humanities majors. Can't imagine a girl putting on makeup daily IRL if with a full courseload and a working on a project like this on the side.
