Yep, his family is still really nailing that creepy Stepford vibe. I get that it's probably supposed to be them being super cautious and eggshelly around him on account of how he is, but... yikes.
ngl his dynamic with his family is one of my favourite parts so far, they're not the typical over the top evil/abusive family but it still feels off enough that I totally understand where the mc is coming from even if I don't totally agree with all of his actions

Yeah, something I'm really curious to see is whether or not the presentation around his family's behavior, especially his sister, is supposed to reflect his perspective as a kind of unreliable narration. I think both mom and stepdad are simply worried about him and doing their best without directly confronting him out of fear that it might make things worse, but the sister has two layers of Weird Shit on top of everything she does:

- The "she's so perfect" of her winning but somewhat uncanny smile, upbeat attitude, perfect behavior, and endless tolerance and encouragement of the MC, where not only is it a little much, but during moments where she e.g. cooks breakfast for the family, our MC-based view of her has her slathered in more layered tone effects than his romantic interest when she's falling into his arms on the train.

- The "oh, that's kind of unsettling" of her very specific comments to him that read as something between a controlling amount of concern and veiled threats. Not just at dinner in chapter 3 where it's suggested she knows exactly what she's doing walking right up to the line of blowing everything up for him, but even in 2 when she addresses him alone upstairs after he comes home late after hanging with Kazemiya and she just happens to bring up that everyone was worried about him (guilt) and there are bad rumors about a girl who stays out late, and, oh, you were also just out late - hope she doesn't get her claws in you, and/or that you also don't accumulate any rumors, and/or maybe I also know where you just were somehow... meanwhile, her background is a splash of black ink on a field of white. Or repeatedly bringing up how if he even pretends to help make a "normal family" (quotes hers) he'll earn sister points.

I'm looking forward to learning which of those is something that's introduced by his perspective, and which of them are for the reader's benefit but not a thing he's aware of. Does he have a creeping suspicion there's more to her than the apparent perfection?

Bro, marry her and get her out of that miserable family life.
That may not be the correct course of action, but I want it to happen regardless.

You're always stuck in second place. You're nothing like your sister. […] It's fine, Kohaku. I don't expect anything from you anymore.
Yeah, nah. No matter how much the author later tries to redeem her mother, it was over the second they made her say this. She's a piece of shit, not a mother.

Also, god is this manga filled with an unnecessary amount of teenage angst. Kouta could've just said something like "I'm sorry, I'm concerned for my friend and can't take my mind off it" and then leave, he really didn't need to pretty much sprint out of there.

She's so irredeemable that the older sister ditch her the moment she finds out what the mom did to the FMC

The mom seems like a classic case of a malignant narcissist. Has a golden child and a scapegoat. Tries to live vicariously through the successes of her favorite.

And even if a child is a golden child, the moment they step out of line, the mom's abusive side would come out. Sometimes the kids can't escape from it. Sometimes they see through it and get away.
