Of course the chapter about weird video game genre blends involves Guilty Gear 2. People are probably familiar with the fighting games like XX/XRD/Strive, but in the time period where they started to make BlazBlue after losing the license because of the Sega/Sammy merger they also put out one of the weirdest sequels of all time. Just Sol and Ky in it with the first introduction of Sin, the Valentines, Raven and a proper introduction and fight with "That Man" as well as Dizzy being referred to only as "The Maiden of the Grove."

And speaking of genres and blurred lines... brawlers/beat 'em ups used to be considered fighting games. Then Street Fighter 2 and the explosive rise of the tournament fighter happened, and tournament fighters rapidly took over "fighting game", leaving the traditional holder of the label to find a new one.
