It seems like the flowers Date saw have either always been there and he's just too focused doing his thing or the only turn into flower recently without notice, it kinda reminded me of the conversation between Tokugawa's vassal and ex-vassal way back when Rikyu is still alive, where they talk about sakura tree and how rarely they truly appreciate its beauty.

I think Araki also said something about "like flower on the side of the road" when he appears again for the first time after Hideyoshi's rule? Or was it grass.

Oribe back when Nobunaga is alive is also pleased with a flower he found on the side of a road.
