This is depressing, to wait a month for only 8 pages... Yet again.
8 pages of barely moving the story forward.
Is something wrong with the author/artist? Surely this is not just because of Covid, right? Did they simply lose interest?

I think they're making it short intentionally since the manga is nearing where the novels left off. Since if the manga finished off early it might lose interest, although they might make it long if we're at the climax of this chapter, that's just my speculations on this. I wish the publisher of Honobu Yonezawa would just let him published the next volume of Hyouka, since Honobu Yonezawa stated on his Twitter that he isn't the one who makes the decision to publish what he writes, although I might be wrong though

For those who are confused -- and rightfully so -- Chapters 76-88 covered the first two parts of Volume 5 of the LN. There are still at least three parts of that volume still remaining, and I have no idea why they were skipped over.

This particular chapter is actually the start of the fourth story in Volume 6 of the LN, and is completely unrelated to the events of the previous set of chapters.

They seem to be doing all the events from Vol 5 and Vol 6 in chronological order, that's why they are oscillating between vol 5 and Vol 6.

You're right about the chronological order of the chapters, but the decision to release them in that order doesn't make sense to me from a narrative perspective. After all,

Mayaka's story here has no bearing whatsoever on the Ohinata arc.

Also, by interrupting the arc, it prevents readers from becoming getting used to Ohinata joining the club, which in turn may lessen the impact of the events that take place in Volume 5.

I agree that from a narrative perspective it is a bit unusual but
if the pacing is kept right and they adapt the tiger and the crab short story and restructure the marathon a little it could easily normalise the audience to Ohinata.

I really liked The Tiger and the Crab and would like to see it in a future manga chapter -- or better yet, an anime adaptation -- but I doubt it will happen because it's extremely text-heavy.

Then again, if they include Oreki's book report on Run, Melos! in this latest manga arc, then there may be a chance of that happening. I guess I should keep my fingers crossed for that.
