I'm guessing the girl in the dream was t he original heroine of the story?
Anyway, I've always felt like stories where we have a character from a fictional world rebelling against the author never explore the idea in depth... Are all novels and stories 'real' then? Does that mean that every author is essentially torturing the characters of their stories for our entertainment, or is the author just acting as a medium and recording what has/will happen?
There's a lot of existential meat left on the bone of this idea, that is never touched by these types of stories.
