So... I feel like he only likes her because plot.
Literally just because Mc is a Main character candidate.

Meh, I smell bad writing. The possession part has no bearing on the story so far except for making her "a fish out of water", but it doesn't even works since it's been 2 years already since she "arrived" in this world. And mostly, the "MC candidate" system is a convoluted mess: it gives her powers she only needs BECAUSE she's forced into it, and since she doesn't have any reasons to participate, they stick the "all other candidates will disappear" clause to give her a motivation, otherwise the whole "stock" gimmick falls on its face.

The whole "they'll disappear so they can't go after the chosen MC" is such a stupid excuse. Why would they? The only reason they participate is they'll die if they don't. If they don't have to die, they have absolutely no interest in interfering with the MC. But then, they might not want to do interesting thing, and we can't have that, right? Worse, it even gives them more incentive to kill each others directly instead of relying on the system. Opponents can't get more stocks if they're already dead.

Anyway, this is a battle royale where we don't even know the other participants. Are we supposed to ignore they'll all die if the heroine becomes the MC? Are we even going to learn about them, or have they fullfilled their usefulness for the author? Are they going to be all bad people so we don't feel bad, or the heroine feels guilty, despite having bad people as MC candidates making no sense? Or will we see an 8 yo Cinderella disappear into nothingness because her adventures are less interesting?
