Definitely a ploy but the "system" Always gave him two choice. To either kill or make the target belong to him. As long as they no longer have potential to kill him they are gucci.
Also I always love how acting petty actually makes him more trustworthy to his sister. Hell, if I don't know better I would also think he is trustworthy exactly because of how petty he act towards his sister while he is either cold or extremely caring towards others.

Gu Changge, truly a marvelous manipulative bastard. Still though, guess having someone from the modern realm incarnate as him truly changed the timelines where he dies as a villain into just visions of an alternate timelines.
