This is definitely not bad. Probably a 6 or 7/10. We get real harsh stakes throughout, and a cool mystery in regards to the system. In fact it's pretty refreshing that the system is being questioned so heavily throughout the story with clues to be gathered as well. The biggest thing holding this story back, and I don't see this changing at all is the human antagonists so far have been one-note and dull. No motives outside of the tropey reasons you'd expect. No character building for them.
World-building is done quite well with a drip feed that keeps the story memorable. The author is not afraid of killing of characters suddenly. I was actually caught off guard by one death and was sad to see the character go like they did. The character work for the main cast is fairly decently done. They all come off as relatable to a degree. The flaws come in with the side-characters being just tools for driving forward the plot without many traits that make them feel alive with motives that make them feel human.
I like this enough to keep reading it as I definitely want to see what the author's end game is here. Overall a fun read I don't have a problem recommending to someone that likes dark weak-to-strong power fantasies with mystery elements.
