Apart from Lucas (and the MC), they might all die, nonetheless. They were tutorial characters, after all (with the exception of Lucas). But then again, if the MC tries to "play" the story differently this time, I reckon he might even want the tutorial characters to persist, to put them to good use later. On the other hand, he still might need to sacrifice them. The situation is more or less hopeless, after all.
