the Count want to expand the land forward because the land in city is too toxic for farming. Well, it backfired horribly.

wait, it IS behind the city, isn't it? It's southwards of the city, where the land was not yet corrupted due to monsters. It's just that it's outside the walls, so it's really hard to protect.
