A brutal tutorial indeed. I wonder if quite a few gamers didn't just drop the game after or during the tutorial. I recall, many years ago, I tried an action RPG that just threw you in the middle of a challenging (for me) fight as the first thing in the game. I never played it any further than that, finding it an annoying way to introduce the gameplay to the player.
