You know that Calib was right about the conspiracy. Cedric is apparently the strongest person in the novel, so once he got cursed the Imperial family decided not to help so they could get rid of him. For that reason Calib had to try and become a gran duke: because not the Imperial family, nor any or the three families wanted to aid him. Once Calib managed to become a gran duke they had to make so the curse could not be lifted at all, even if he aquired the knowledge. It just doesn't make sense any other way

on another note: MC knew who the child was and chose not to bring him back to his family for a whole week? Not even informing his brother? I know it was good for his mental health, but still...
