I wonder if this is part of Perez's plan to make Florentia his Empress. Building a successful business would 1) Aid his claim to the throne and 2) Weaken the Lombardi, making Florentia need his help. I don't know if Perez realizes the Pellet company belongs to Tia. Perhaps it's 3) Create business standing equal to the Lombardi so he can negotiate for marriage with Tia on equal standing.

Tia learned about Perez's involvement faster than I thought she would. Other stories would drag out the conflict for several chapters, though I wonder how long she'll keep it from Perez

Building a solid economic base through business would be helpful, and allow him to practice his management skills. But he has no reason to weaken Lombardi when they've been his staunchest allies. Perez holds no animosity toward them, and if anything, probably feels indebted to Tia and her Grandfather. Making them dependent on him this way would be some creepy stalker-ish behavior which we'd see in villains. The kind we'd feel smug satisfaction in seeing the karmic hammer dropping squarely on their heads as they're either killed-off or arrested. Perez has never been known to be that kind of degenerate, otherwise Tia is smart enough that she would have already figured that out about him long ago. And what more Grandpa, if he felt that much off from Perez, he wouldn't have implanted the idea of becoming King in his head when he was a boy. Rather that's the kind of behavior I'd expect from House Angenas, and Empress Lavini.

Standing equal with Lombardi as a whole though would be a daunting task, just because their holdings have been built up over generations, and they've amassed quite a bit of wealth. The tension between him and Clerivan suggests that he has no idea that Tia is the real owner of Pellet, or he wouldn't have done what he did. He likes her too much. At the least, he would've tried to deal with her directly just because he knows he can actually speak with her anytime. From what he's displayed so far, he's only aware of Clerivan as head of the Pellet company, and what he knows is that Pellet is competing with him in the North. I'm convinced now that he was sizing up Clerivan as his business competition when the two of them met earlier.

Past Perez was ruthless, though. He took the throne by violent conquest after a life of abuse. Even though Tia has altered specific events, the general timeline is similar to her past life. I expect some similarities between past and present Perez. He could be taking a yandere twist, or his Academy friends could be influencing him.

What's shocking about Perez starting a rival company is that we've seen them as allies until now. He knows that Pellet is close to Lombardi, so even if he hasn't realized Tia = Pellet, it's still antagonistic against Tia's allies. We also know he's obsessed with Tia though she's shown no romantic interest in return, as she's planning to become Lombardi Head not Empress. I'm guessing this is the source of conflict.

Of course I'm only speculating and could be wrong! Here's another guess; He sees Clerivan as a romantic rival, so he's challenging him through business.

Book Perez is consistently creepier. Like... constant red flag behavior. I dislike Yandere characters so the "romance" (it didn't feel romantic) was my least favorite part.

The manhwa handling of his character sanded off a lot of his edges. I'd probably like him if I wasn't poisoned by knowledge. While she doesn't seem to have romantic feelings (yet), at least the manhwa so far doesn't feel like the prologue of a really dramatic Lifetime Original Movie about abuse. 😅

"Weakening the Lombardis" seems like a terrible idea on the surface, tbh. The effectiveness aside, is he really going to risk jeopardizing his relationship with Tia by attacking her family? It's not something he can hide if your point 1 were true; his company would have to advertise their support for him, or Perez would have to advertise his association with them is firm, for this power to be meaningful.

That said, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the Pellet Company ostensibly belongs to the Lombardis*, so if point 2 were true, Perez would be better served by going up against Gallahan's clothing business instead.

*Even then, this is Tia's own business venture, unsupported by the family, right? Isn't it her own private property and not the part of the family estate? ......... Is that how it works? :questionblob:

"Weakening the Lombardis" would be a crazy person's plan, yes. I'm speculating that Perez could take a heel turn and try to "take" Tia's hand in marriage, instead of earning it.

"Owned by the Lombardis" seems like an amorphous concept. Does it mean things owned by the Grandfather, or by the family head? Things that are expected to pass down to the next family head but excluding side projects? Are the shitty uncles' businesses (destined to fail/sell out to the Angenas) included when we know those lead to the house's ruin? The bank is run by a vassal family but ostensibly controlled by the Lombardis. Probably any business owned by someone named Lombardi counts as a Lombardi asset.

That said we know that Tia is planning to become family head to prevent her Family's downfall under her Uncle. She started her businesses for that goal. I feel good about saying "Pellett Company is a Lombardi company" if its mission is to keep Lombardi prosperous.

I thought Perez wanted business so that he could be on the same level as lombardis, because being a prince is obviously not enough lol he has to have money so he can shower her with the luxury she has always known haha also I don't think Perez knows that pellet is Tia's. I'm like 90% sure he thinks it's an ex employee going off on their own so he doesn't care if he is affecting their business negatively. It's like 'you already have your own business but you're still warming up to them? Do you have no shame?'

But I'm curious as to this knowledge @oui_je_danse speaks of cause I dropped the novel lolol

To be fair, it was mostly bad vibes especially when we were in his perspective. But not trusting your read of the vibes IS how all those Lifetime Original Movies start, so....
