Why would they ask the sister to watch over the bride to be? That was usually the job of maids and other servants.
And why would you ask a sister who is unable to standup to the person you want watched? She wouldn't be able to do anything when the time comes.
The cause of all this is the parent's incompetence and spinelessness.
