I’m just realizing the emperor is really bad at his job. If it wasn’t for Lass’s intervention from the pirates, the oil, and now this, the country would’ve been shafted hard. He was literally about to agree to getting involved in a war that really didn’t have a clear benefit to him. He was about to lose all his weapons because he was like “fuck it we haven’t killed anyone in awhile.” Like why? You are an idiot. If Lass had any bad intention she could absolutely turn him into a puppet king because she apparently does all the thinking in this relationship

I don't agree with that at all. Lass is doing everything with insight from the future, we know she's good as a secretary but haven't been shown any political read wits outside of this (I wouldnt count easy blackmail and burning the ppl you dont like as political wits). Meanwhile the Emperor is a distrustful individual (for good reasons) who received a proposition that, on all points, seems to correspond with his intention where he wouldn't have to extend any real national power against a weaker nation, why would he refuse ?
Same for the ship being attacked, predicting they would be attacked here in the middle of nowhere is just plain magic.
The only real problem I have with this Emperor is this, where the fuck are the spies ? You're the biggest nation around since you're an empire, your land is poor in ressources and you're looking to invade the inlands as much as you can, where the fuck is your intelligence service ? (That could have been used to prevent all the events you mentioned from happening)
Also having your biggest trading ship, one of the lifeline of your Empire going around with escort is so fucking dumb.
