She didn’t even flinch, the absolute madwoman.

Also since it’s topical, it was announced this week that Idolatry will move from Weekly Shonen Magazine to its online-only platform, MangaPoke. It’s not uncommon for this to happen (Dead Account went through the same thing), but keep that in mind.

Is the theme of the week "desire", or rather, "hunger"? The desire to improve, the hunger to be the best. That could explain why the rest of the team is on board with the role swaps, they've figured out that the best way to shine is to get better at things they're not usually good at. Junna sort of showed that when she broke in to the producer's apartment. It makes sense if you don't think about it! Anyway, thank you very much for the translation.

every chapter i am racking my head over why this series isnt so popular both at home and seemingly abroad.

art is good
story is clear and you have a decent idea wat to expect in the first 15 ish chapters
author is obviously determined to make the all the characters unique and likeable in their own way

ps. saw some comments about some lost anime potential but personally i feel that a live action may suit this title pretty well.

It is in a niche genre (idol stuff) and yuri (or yuri-ish at least), but not the typical yuri story either. It doesn't really try to appeal to the lowest common denominator. As long as it doesn't get axed, I have no complaints. Also, hopefully they will license it in english. I want Junna's crazyness on paper.

Yeah, I think it is going to be the willingness to go outside your comfort zone or something like that. Though last chapter it seemed that Abi knew what the goal was, which makes me wonder if that's it or if it's all unrelated and the other girls are just voting for Junna because she already has a track record of making outlandish plans work.

Abi picked such a crazy team name and yet her team suggestion was very safe. "Mix together what's real and fake within ourself?" Yup, Junna's team is far more fitting for the machine gun analogy. Machine gun shoot bullets like crazy and not everything is gonna hit but it's very deadly.

I'd argue that it's the same genre as some fairly successful works like Death Note & Classroom of the Elite, the Idol elements are just set dressing, making it an "idol story" in the same way that DN is a detective drama or COTE is a school drama. 'Cause, like, we all know that this manga isn't an accurate depiction of what idols are like. (Plus, Oshi no Ko got pretty mainstream despite being more of an idol story than this.)

And the GL stuff isn't too big of a problem, I think, 'cause it's not like the story's a romance or anything, and it's pretty easy for people who don't like it to just handwave it away like "she doesn't actually love her, she's just her fan! It's an important piece of Japanese culture that really has no western equivalent, so it's only natural that westerners would culturally appropriate it and call it love!" It's happened before, I see no reason why it can't happen again.

So, personally, I feel like this does have the makings of a pretty successful mainstream-adjacent manga. Though I do agree with what you're saying at least in the fact that I feel like the idol framing is probably causing some potential readers to drop it before getting to the point where that "scheming genius drama" actually comes out.

I think that if it ever got an anime, though, the lower barrier of entry would allow more people to get past that hurdle, at which point I definitely think it could have a chance at blowing up. At that point, it'd just a matter of luck, but I think it'd have a good 60~70% chance, which is better than I'd have given some of the stuff that's been successful lately.

Though I could also totally be reading this wrong and maybe this is totally set up to be a flop. What do I know? The last time I learned anything about economics or market patterns was in my Highschool AP Economics class, and I honestly did not pay attention in that class in the slightest.

I knew with the build up they would all raise their hands, but my biggest question is why. :thonk: Man, that cliffhanger is evil

I imagine they would all agree because she told them that doing their strong point may get them into the next round but won't let them go for the win. Since it's a reality show, if you only ever do the thing you're good at the audience gets bored but then watching people struggle and improve builds more connection and makes them more likable

Been reading it since chapter 8, 4 months ago. It's sooo good. Junna is one of the best female MCs out there, just an MC straight from a psychological seinen/shounen now with a skirt. absolute alpha "male".

Oshikatsu and Gachikoi are two different things tho. I think Junna's obsesion to Fuwari is closer to the first than the latter (it's more like a in-between these two); she already showed she doesn't get mad when other ppl are close to Fuwari also Junna is not being possesive romantically to her oshi.

I believe that if it doesn't focus on a romantic development as a main plot it can't be a yuri/gl story (although this doesn't discard any possibility of a romantic subplot). IDOLXIDOL STORY e.g. is more closer to the yuri/gl topic since both the MC and her oshi really likes/admires each other and one of them has confirmed she is attracted to other girls
