Page 7, "he wasn't surprised?" makes no sense, pretty sure that's a mistranslation. The only "he" it could refer to doesn't know so he couldn't be surprised. Her employer also has no bearing on him being surprised. So it's about the doctor not being surprised, because it's not the first human-aberrant relationship she knows.

I think the (presumably) boss is quite a clever move.
This allows the author to have the verbal confession that was needed for relationship progress while providing a mechanism to have her return to her mute status, and also provide an opportunity for grinhead to demonstrate his promise to protect her.
Will be interesting to see how it pans out.
