Yup my train of thought exactly. The father had the perfect opportunity to lay it all bare and start over, with both Aizawa and his daughter, and chose not to. He even said that he'd "get out of this completely clean" because he valued his appearance in his daughter's eyes than having an actual, honest relationship with her. That's the same reason he failed to be there for her during the bullying too - every single thing, he brought upon himself.
