I kinda wonder if this is just going to end up being Rex having an awkward misunderstanding. The "I'm going to mail the devs about this!" line and the line about "Lily Madness" make it sound like she was potentially the subject of a player rumor, where people wanted something implemented that wasn't actually real (like the pokemon "mew under the truck" rumor).

Like, something along the lines of "the game had a system where you could give gifts to NPCs to raise their affection, but Lily never actually had her relationship code implemented, so people just kept throwing money into her like a black hole trying to unlock something that didn't exist". That'd fit the line about the guy mailing devs, and also the guy claiming "lily madness", with people going crazy trying to unlock something nonexistent.

So what looks like a cliffhanger about her secret could also just be Rex mildly bullying some girl he thinks intentionally broke players' hearts.

I think it's more like, Lily turns out to be a traitor or something along those lines, with the one post wanting back the millions they spent on equipment. I don't think you'd gift Lily equipment. I think they bought the best gear possible, equipped her, only for her to become an enemy or something.
