Yeah... not to mention all the guards. They got there late, and did an instant about face when there wasn't killing to be done. Either the author is an idiot, or he's trying way too hard to make his temporary antagonist seem like a sleaze.
It's even worse that the supposed calm and collected protagonist was actually unnerved by it. He KNEW what the sleaze was really like, he knew the situation, and he knew that he was in the right. Yet, instead of reaching over and slapping the guy telling the queen to ask the witnesses, literally everyone else, he stops in shock?
