What family? He clearly doesn't care about life of some random monster.
Incident with adventurers was awful in more then one way. In the first place from the adventurers dialogue it's widely known information that you can find profitable drops in that place, but it's dangerous and only experienced parties can survive. MC approached them like some generic villainous thug "this generous lord will spare you life if you give up your posessions" we have seen in almost every chinese novel( but even they usually just beat up MC without killing). Would you give up thing you risked your life to obtain to some edgy teenager in pajamas?(probably yes bc it is most likely a MC). And the author thinks MC's self-righteous bullshit totally justifies killing people. Not scaring them off by showing the difference in strength, not crippling them to make an example, but outright gory slaughter bc it is cool and edgy.
About the MC's contradictory actions. That stems from clash between the old asian mentality that values family/clan/company hierarchy with complete disregard for the life of ones "lower" then you, and the modern "maybe we need to be something more then just a cogs in hierarchical mechanism and be kinder to other people" mentality(this problem is the main topic in the Korean film "Parasites") Reading many novels I stumbled upon a lot of racism and nationalism from asian authors and I can say that people are currently moving to new humanistic ideas but old traditions is hard to forget.
