I get the feeling that the reason they're both trapped here is Johannes, and the reason he's brought them here is to resurrect or somehow possess his sister in a way he couldn't before (even if it's not his sister, but just her shell) and use Dietrich to kill off all the things keeping him from doing that. It would also explain why Charlotte 1.0 is so hostile. DAMN, this would have made a stellar RPG MAKER or PS2 era horror game.
