I have a feeling that a lot of minor details were omitted here about the journey.

@Magaso still has more detail than the anime, but at least the anime design is better (unlike Youjo Senki which butchers the anime chara design)

Always funny how this MC is dense for the feeling about him but not for the romance about other

The thing is, he isn't dense. He's intentionally ignoring their advances, because he doesn't want to be in that kind of relationship. (Because relationships are a pain in the ass IRL.) I'm the same way. I know when I'm being flirted with, but it's easy to look dense, and they can forgive it and still be friends with you (if you want).

In my culture & religion, it was permitted to have polygamy in a marriage. There was actually a man who his wives actually planned for him to get married to until the limit quota (four wives per one family head/husband) because he was a very unassuming, kind & just person. He didn't even try to seek them because he could/wanted to, but his wives by their own judgment wanted him to marry the next woman (that needed a man's protection) due to his own pure personality. It's a true story (from the 90s as I remember correctly) as well as a very VERY rare occasion due to the hard accomplishments the men in my culture must achieve in order to even marry more than one woman for whatever valid reasons. But the bonus of this moral of the story was that all of his wives were either widows or had their own circumstances, self-efficient & they're all friends with each other, thus they wanted him to help provide them shelter & care & at the same time closer friendship & familial values. This MC reminds me of that legendary man, except that they're not as young & this was real life.

The translation is functional at best, they really could have done better, but they could've done worse as well

To be fair quite a lot of the qualities and details that the manga has would be difficult to recreate in animation. However I do share in your wishes that the anime would more closely match the style of the manga even if it was less detailed. Especially in trial by fire, the double spreads were so visceral in the manga and none of that carried over into the show for me.

What bothers me more personally is how they changed up the story and thus ruined Anson’s conclusion just for the sake of fitting it into 12 episodes. I mean there were enough story cuts and changes that they could’ve easily made a 24 episode season that still ended at operation ark whilst maintaining some quality level of pacing. I enjoy the show nonetheless but it’s very disheartening.

IMO the only thing they nailed for the anime is the sfx, and the depiction of Tanya as a psycho brat (even more extreme than the manga, IMO).
