My hunch is that since she works at a seitai clinic she's met a lot of people with complex, hard to treat issues. Due to the stigma surrounding mental illness in Japan which often drives people away from seeking genuine mental health services (this is becoming less of an issue tho!), traditional medicine could be seen as a more appealing, less scandalous route.
