This is so far removed from reality I just can't enjoy it much.

The author stated it's up to the readers' imagination whether Kiritani and Numajiri look and act the same as characters with their names in their art CG (Sakusei Byoutou,which got adapted into the vn doujin and anime) or if they're in the same world. Given the "animal breaker" title it might or might not be a shared universe but makes it plausible.
