Well, damn. I wouldn’t want to see her either. My parents split up when I was younger, but they at least talked to me about it beforehand. It doesn’t matter how young he was. You can’t just disappear on a kid like that. Its traumatizing and since he’s a young kid he would have likely blamed himself not understanding the situation. Really the younger and less likely to understand a child is, the more care you have to put into situations like these. If both parents are constantly arguing and one often absent than staying together probably isn’t the best environment either, but straight up disappearing in the night is the worst way to handle it. The “carton of milk” or “pack of cigarettes” joke actually happening is less traumatic.
