A cute ending, and not revealing the fate of the Hero is nice, because he could still be old and crippled based on what we've been shown...

Except based on the timeline of events he's lived WAAAAY too long, so he must have had his life either greatly extended, or (more likely) he's gotten immortality.
Unless I'm forgetting a earlier comic that explains this.

The great grandkids say something like "your friends can join too," or (in the official TL) "will your friends also be joining us (to eat)?" So it seems they can see him as well, because those are the only 2 people there besides their magic grandma.

Sorry, my bad. I was searching for volume release actually. Knowing square enix they will probably never release a volume and will keep releasing those split chapters. Sigh. Thanks a lot for the link my friend.
