To be fair, Netscape evolved into Firefox, so it's still around, sort of. The expertise that formed Mozilla and Firefox didn't come out of nowhere. Many of the people who worked on Netscape Navigator / Communicator / Etc. joined the Mozilla Foundation and helped make Firefox.

@arcsalvo Soooooooort of. What people know as the famous Netscape Navigator of the 90's has little in common with Firefox. Perhaps Firefox is what Netscape should have become, but Netscape died before it could or even wanted to change so drastically.

Nothing comes out of nowhere, so that argument doesn't really mean anything. As long as browsers are meant to render web pages for people to view, they will have plenty in common. But you can't draw the line there if you want to compare them.
