I don't know what the author's intentions were when he created their coach as a hot handsome woman, but I totally approve of that.

She learned well from battle shounens. Shouting her attack names obviously increases their effectiveness by 100%.

@SuperOniichan Being a man of culture of course.

@Tersione No doubt about it lol. Also, I'm wondering where this cliché came from. Shonen's writers thought it was very epic and cool?

@SuperOniichan To make their characters more iconic and recognizable? It certainly worked for the most popular ones, but at the cost of making them look kinda silly.

Maybe there is an influence of martial arts such as kendo, where you shout when striking? (of course, you don't shout the name of the attack and there is a real effect, but shouting your attack's name does help make it more recognizable for the readers)
Thanks for the translation, as always~~~

It's pretty much, like almost all shounen tropes, going to come from a combination of Fist of the North Star and Dragon Ball.

Anyway I appreciate how the rivals aren't just generic or one note but are their own characters as well with their own goals, motivations and bonds same as the MCs. Kind of reminds me of the approach in Sesuji wo Pin where all the characters were written like the protagonists of their own stories that we were only catching glimpses of. It certainly makes the match mean more to the reader.

@Tersione
the louder you shout the more powerful the boost

I could wish for a short notes pages that explained some of the moves used each chapter.

Just wondering but she seems easily influenced maybe if you shouted a different move at her would she start performing that one instead?

No kidding though, what's wrong with her face? She not allowed to smile after winning a match?

@AgentKuga It's pretty clear that her expression was condescending so it's understandable Erika would be pissy about not just being beaten by but mocked by a junior in her last match. Towa did say that she gains more confidence when wearing her judogi so it's not too farfetched to think that confidence turned to arrogance when she was just starting out. Especially if she was running through people who had been doing it longer.
